Harness Sizing Guide
Follow our step-by-step guide below to gauge which harness size is the best fit for your dog. If in doubt, pop us a message via bonjour@maisoncaniche.com and we'll be happy to help.
We recommend prioritising your dog’s chest measurement for this harness.
Unlike collars, this style is designed to sit further back - across your dog’s shoulders and chest - for comfort and to reduce neck strain. Scroll down to see how the harness should sit on your dog's shoulders.

Step 1: Get ready
You’ll need a soft tape measure (or a piece of string and a ruler) and your dog standing naturally.
Step 2: Measure your dog’s neck
Place the tape just above your dog’s shoulder blades, slightly behind where their collar would normally sit. This is where the harness neck strap will sit. Make sure it’s snug but not tight - you should be able to fit two fingers under the tape.
Note: The harness front will not fit exactly like a collar. The neck opening is shaped like a teardrop - the rounded end sits at the front of your dog’s neck, while the pointed end extends slightly back, sitting just above the shoulder blades. Please refer to the photos below to see how this looks.
Step 3: Measure your dog’s chest
Place the tape around the widest part of your dog’s ribcage - this is typically one finger-width behind the front legs. Wrap it all the way around to the starting point, making sure it’s snug but not tight. This is your dog’s chest measurement.
Step 4: Compare to sizing below
Match your dog’s neck and chest measurements to the sizes listed below. If your dog is between sizes, we recommend sizing up for comfort.

Step 5: Try on and adjust
When fitted, the harness should be snug but not restrictive - you should be able to slip two fingers between the straps and your dog’s body. If your harness doesn’t fit perfectly, we’ll help you exchange it.
